Five elements of purchasing saxophone

2019-02-25

The choice of saxophone has always affected the patience of beginners. I'm afraid that choosing a saxophone that is not suitable for me will affect my future study. Now let's introduce its simple selection tips. I believe it can help you choose your favorite saxophone.

1. The intonation, as a tool for creating music, is undoubtedly the most critical indicator. As far as saxophone is concerned, we should check two items:

First, relative intonation, namely interval! It is to play saxophone to detect whether the distance between its own sound and sound is accurate. This indicator is determined by two factors - design accuracy and assembly accuracy. Some pipes have a congenital error in the design of the distance between the sound holes. Such instruments can only harm our ears. In addition, some pipes have no problem with the distance between the holes, but the assembly accuracy is not enough, causing individual pads to be too high or too low from the sound holes, which will not only affect the intonation, Moreover, the unity of timbre will also be affected. Even if this situation can be solved through repair, we'd better choose those "congenitally unimpeded" products!

Second, absolute intonation, that is, the consistency between saxophone sound and standard pitch. After we have checked the interval mentioned above, we can listen to its comparison with the standard sound. Only if this indicator is also passed can we ensure that we can play this instrument with other instruments. For example, the sound of saxophone playing A should be the same height as that of the tuning fork, (Note: this has some adjustability. If it is slightly lower than the tuning fork, you can insert more flute heads in. If it is slightly higher, it is the opposite. This is very normal. Any advanced saxophone should be adjusted in this way before performing or recording in order to cooperate with the band or accompaniment. However, if it is much worse, it is the instrument that has problems.) When using the above methods to detect the intonation, you should choose to use whistles with moderate thickness, In addition, the control of the mouth shape and breath will have a certain impact on the pitch. The general standard is: within the controllable range, the difference between the playing pitch and the target pitch is within 30 minutes, so that the pitch is qualified

2. The material and the material of the main part are important factors that determine the durability of Sax, and also an important factor that affects the timbre. At present, there are many pipes on the market with insufficient wall thickness, strength and mechanical performance. Such products must be jerry built. There are many impurities in copper materials, which are easy to deform. Although the price of such pipes is low, some of them are even less than 1000 yuan. You should know that for a good material selection, For saxophone with fine workmanship, the price is not enough even for the cost, so we'd better keep away from it. In this respect, we can check it by visual inspection and playing. Generally, we look at the edge of the key cover and the sound hole, as well as the key guard device. In addition, the sound color of such an instrument is very "split" when blowing. Another saxophone is too thick, because the manufacturer's welding technology is backward, the thin copper plate can be welded through, and this product is very solid, The timbre is a little dull, which can be used as an entry-level instrument.

3. Touch, check whether the tension of each tone key spring is moderate. If the tension is too small, the keys will rise and fall slowly. Playing fast scales will have a certain impact. If the tension is too large, the fingers will exert too much force, which will easily make the fingers stiff and affect the performance of the playing skills

4. The air tightness is very important. Check whether the marks on the cushion are even, and whether the cushion and the sound hole are flat and close after the key is pressed. After all the sound holes are closed, visually check that there is no gap, and then try to blow to make sure that each sound (especially the bass) can be played easily, and the tone is uniform, coherent and smooth

5. For other tests, check whether the welding points are firm and the connecting rods can move freely. In addition, in terms of appearance selection, try to choose the products with mature processing technology, and try not to choose the products with too complex process, because the thick coating on the surface of these products will seriously affect the resonance effect of the pipes
